On Thursday, March 28, 2013, at 12:54 a.m., Sausalito Police Officer Justin Ritz, while on patrol in the area of Road 3, saw a man holding an object in his right hand while riding a bicycle without the required lighting equipment. Officer Ritz attempted to stop the bicyclist, later identified as Mark Joseph Adams, age 46, All Points, Sausalito, on Harbor Drive. Adams fled on the bicycle north on the Bridgeway bike path then onto Gate 5 Road in an attempt to evade the officers. Adams eventually crashed into a fixed object in the area of Liberty Dock, sustaining injuries to his face. Officers attempted to apprehend Adams but he resisted being handcuffed. It took three officers to finally place Adams into handcuffs.
Upon investigation, officers found that Adams was in possession of two laptop computers, a purse full of jewelry, and several credit cards that had just been stolen in a burglary at a business located at 80 Libertyship Drive.
After receiving a medical clearance from Marin General Hospital, Adams was transported to the Marin County Jail where he was booked on the following charges: Possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, resisting arrest, and violating the terms of his parole. He is being held on a State of California felony parole hold in lieu of bail.
