PRESS RELEASE – 302 Panama Drive Structure Fire – 3/27/2013
On 27 March 2013, at approximately 9:06 am, the Crestview Police Department responded to 302 Panama Drive, Crestview, Florida, in reference to a report of a structure fire. Responding officers were advised it was probable that an elderly individual was within the residence at that address.
Officers John Cook, Justin Reed, Detective David Henry, and Sergeant Don Howe arrived at the residence but were unable to make contact with the resident, or enter through the front door. Detective Henry and Officer Reed went to the rear of the residence and observed that the back porch was on fire. Detective Henry began to extinguish the flames using a water hose attached to the residence, while Officers Cook and Reed entered the home in search of occupants. Officers Cook and Reed located the resident, Sarah Edwards in the rear bedroom. These officers and Sergeant Howe then assisted Ms Edwards out of the residence to safety. Detective Henry successfully extinguished the flames.
Based on information that another individual may have been present within the residence, Officers Cook and Reed then re-entered the home and conducted a sweep; meeting with negative results.
Crestview Fire Department personnel arrived on-scene and began fire operations. Okaloosa County Emergency Medical Services arrived and administered medical attention to Ms Edwards and police personnel for smoke inhalation. Officers Cook and Reed were treated at the scene. Detective Henry was transported to the North Okaloosa Medical Center Emergency Room, where he was treated and released.
The incident was contained with minimal loss to property and no significant injuries due to the cooperative efforts of the Crestview Police Department, Crestview Fire Department, and Okaloosa County Emergency Medical Services.
