Burbank Police joining #POALAC this week for 2013 Safety Seat Checkup to encourage proper use of seatbelt restraints.
March 24-30 2013 Special Enforcement Week-Protecting Children
The Burbank Police Department is joining with the Peace Officers Association of Los Angeles County (POALAC) and participating in Special Enforcement Week and Safety Seat Checkup Week.
Motor Vehicle crashes are the number one cause of deaths and injuries for children and young people. Based on data provided by the Californai Highway Patrol, more than 80% of the children under four years old killed in traffic collisions since 1990 died in survivable crashes. In other words, they would have lived if their parents had properly buckled them up.
During the week of March 24-30, 2013, Burbank Police officers will be making a special effort to watch for children under age 16 who are not properly restrained and to "educate" the driver with an appropriate citation.
Through eduation and enforcement, the Burbank Police Department hopes to increase Seatbelt/Safety Seat awareness and decrease the number of children injured/killed in auto related accidents.
