Advisory

Florida Forest Service & NPR Fire Rescue planning a 25 acre wildland fuels reduction burn at James E. Grey Preserve, March 27th.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Florida Forest Service and New Port Richey Fire Rescue are planning to conduct a 25 acre wildland fuels reduction burn (prescribed burn) within the James E. Grey Preserve on Wednesday, March 27th weather permitting. This is a Wildfire Mitigation Project specifically targeting wildland fuels in close proximity to bordering communities where these fuels present a potential wildfire threat. This burn will be a carefully planned event and will only be conducted if the weather parameters are met. The burn area will be in New Port Richey south of Plathe Rd and west of Rowan Rd. Residents of this community as well as neighboring areas may notice the smoke plume from this event. Current winds are forecast to carry the smoke to the south. Residents within the region bordering the burn location may consider keeping their windows closed should the odor of smoke be noticed. If you have any question regarding this planned burn, please feel free to call Dave Fogler, Senior Forester at 352/523-5101, or New Port Richey Fire Rescue at (727) 853-1032.
