Details

On March 22, 2013 Anti-Crime Team Investigators were in the area listed above. They found a subject driving a stolen vehicle. When they attempted to stop the 2003 Dodge Ram pickup truck, the driver fled and at different times, exceeded speeds of 100 MPH (county roads and the freeway). The pursuit of the vehicle went through several areas of Gilroy. The driver went into an unincorporated area of Gilroy north of the city limits, and then returned to Gilroy. The driver led officers into an area close to South Valley Middle School. The school was placed on a lockdown temporarily until the suspect was arrested.

Gilroy Police Officers attempted to disable Mr. Vasquez’s vehicle more than once without success. Mr. Vasquez was able to maneuver around/through those efforts. The officers were able to successfully use legal intervention tactics to terminate the pursuit. Mr. Vasquez chose to resist the officers’ efforts to extract him from his vehicle. Mr. Vasquez was taken into custody at Leavesley Rd. and Swanston Lane. He was processed at the Gilroy Police Dept. and later booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.

Officers from the California Highway Patrol and Deputies from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Gilroy Police officers with pursuit. There were no injuries to any officers or civilians.
