Arrest in Search Warrant
MONROE – A man from Monroe was taken into custody last night after a lengthy investigation of an illegal operation of a wrecking yard. On February 27, 2013, officers served a warrant on a residence in the 600 block of Elizabeth Street in Monroe. During the search warrant several firearms were observed inside the residence. The suspect, who was not home at the time of the search warrant, is a convicted felon and cannot possess firearms. A second warrant was obtained for nine firearms which included an AK-47, an AR-15 and a stolen 12-gauge shotgun that were removed from the residence.
A third search warrant was obtained for Craigslist postings with the suspect’s email and two telephone contact numbers known to be associated to him. On March 20, 2013, a list of these postings dating back to December 2011 was received. Of note was a June 2012 posting advertising a Stag Arms AR-15 rifle for sale and in November 2012 there were numerous advertisements for car parts, which included solicitations for firearms instead of cash. In December 2012, there were ads for an AK-47 that appeared to be the same model as recovered from the residence.
On March 21, 2013, Scott R. Shelton, age 29 of Monroe, was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Snohomish County Jail for booking on nine counts of Unlawful Possession of Firearm 2nd degree and Possession of Stolen Firearm. Additional charges of Possession of Stolen Property and misdemeanor charges of Operating an Illegal Wrecking Yard and Unlawful Sales of Motor Vehicles without a Dealer License are pending further investigation.
