On March 14, 2013, at approximately 1:36 P.M., deputies from the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s station responded to a possible pipe bomb explosion in the 5400 Blk. of Briggs Ave., La Crescenta.

Upon arrival of deputies, they found what appeared to be an object resembling a pipe bomb in front of a house and a broken window. The area was closed off to residents and traffic. The Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Arson and Explosives team responded to the scene to investigate the device.

The investigation of the item was determined to only be a piece of pipe and no explosives were found. Further investigation revealed that the pipe was on the street (marks on the street match the pipe in front of the house) and it appears that the pipe was hit by a passing car, causing it to be propelled toward the house, hitting the window, causing a loud noise that sounded like an explosion.

No one was injured. The only damage to the house was the window hit by the pipe.
