On February 27, 2013, Gardena Police Detectives arrested Corey Delaine Stewart for a rape that occurred on September 28, 2012 in the City of Gardena. Stewart is a 40-year-old African American Male, 5’9”, 265lbs and resides in the City of Redondo Beach.
Stewart was initially charged for rape after a victim identified him as her attacker, and his DNA matched evidence left at the scene. On Tuesday, March 12, 2013, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office filed additional charges against Stewart stemming from the rape of an 11-year-old girl he met in 2005. The victim came forward after seeing Stewart’s photo on the local news.
“I have serious concerns about the safety of our community if sexual predators like this are loose in our community. I am thankful for the three courageous women who have stepped forward and made the difficult decision to tell their story. I am confident that justice will be served in this case”, said Gardena Police Chief Edward Medrano.
