ADDITIONAL FIREARMS SAFETY COURSE OFFERED

(Etowah County, Alabama) The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office has scheduled an additional citizen’s firearms safety course, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

The additional course is scheduled for Tuesday, April 2. Classes scheduled for March 12 and March 19 are full.

“The overwhelming response from citizens has led to this additional course,” Sheriff Entrekin said. “We are pleased that so many people are interested in learning how to safely use their firearms.”

The course is offered free to the public and is held at the Joe Ford Center on the campus of Gadsden State Community College from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eighty seats are available for the class and registration is required.

Since February 19, three courses have been completed by 180 citizens.

Sheriff Entrekin continued, “Our firearms instructors do a great job teaching the public the responsibilities of ownership and use of a firearm in Alabama.”

Those who finished the classroom portion were given the option to attend a range day on Saturday, March 9, to receive one-on-one help from Sheriff’s Office firearms instructors. The range day was held at the Owls Hollow Shooting Range.

The participants in upcoming classes to be held on March 12, March 19 and April 2 will also have the opportunity to meet with firearms instructors at the range.

“We were excited to see 75 individuals come to the range to receive further instruction on how to fire their weapon,” Sheriff Entrekin said. “Several individuals were firing a weapon for the first time and they did a great job.”

The Owls Hollow Shooting Range is operated by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and maintained by the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office. The range is open to the public daily from dawn to dusk.
