Norwich Twp Fire Dept. Reminds You To Change The Battery In Your Smoke Detector When You Change Your Clock On March 10th

In conjunction with daylight savings when you move your clocks one hour ahead, the Norwich Township Fire Department wants to remind our residents to change the batteries in their smoke detectors.

Smoke detectors that are properly installed and maintained play a vital role in reducing fire deaths and injuries. Having a working smoke alarm cuts the chances of dying in a fire in half. From 2003 to 2006, over half of the reported home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke detectors. When smoke detectors fail to operate, it is usually because batteries are missing, disconnected or dead. The death rate per 100 reported fires was twice as high in homes without a working smoke alarm as it was in home fires with this protection.
