Topsfield Police Fraud Advisory

The Topsfield Police Department is investigating reports from citizens who have received phone calls from a person claiming to represent National Grid, a company that supplies electric service to the community. The caller demands immediate payment for overdue charges that has not been paid by the customer. If the customer doesn’t make immediate payment the company will shut off the customer’s electric service.

Our department has contacted representatives of National Grid who indicated that there is an extensive process of notification to the customer prior to any disruption of service and these calls are fraudulent.

Citizens are asked not to provide any payment or personal information to the caller. If you are in doubt of the legitimacy of the call hang up and call National Grid's billing office number listed on your electric bill.
