Meth Lab Busted In New Castle

New Castle – Last evening around 6 p.m. members of the Pendleton District Meth Suppression Squad went to a home at 1609 Irvine Ave. in New Castle to serve a search warrant. The warrant was a result of an ongoing meth investigation that involved several agencies, including the Henry County Prosecutor’s Office, Henry County Drug Task Force, New Castle Police Department, Shirley Police Department and Henry County Community Corrections.

When Officers entered the home they found a working meth lab along with the chemicals used in the manufacture of meth. Arrested was the home owner and his wife, Lawrence Lathan, age 54, and Mary Lathan, age 48. Both were charged with Maintaining a Common Nuisance, Class “D” Felony.

Wade McKenzie, age 37 of that same address, was arrested and charged with Manufacturing Methamphetamine, Class “B” Felony; Possession of the Precursors used in the Manufacturing of Methamphetamine and Maintaining a Common Nuisance, both Class “D” Felonies.

Holli Choate, age 36, was charged with Maintaining a Common Nuisance and Neglect of a Dependant, both Class “D” Felonies. Her 2 year old child, who was in the home at the time, was turned over to the Henry County Child Protection Services who also assisted at the scene.

Also arrested at the home was Travis Lathan, age 25 for Maintaining a Common Nuisance, Class “D” Felony. This investigation is ongoing with further charges possible. New Castle Fire Department also provided support to officers at the scene.
