On 02/23/2013, at approximately 9:25 p.m., Newport Police Officers responded to the Agate Beach Best Western Hotel on a reported drug complaint. During a room service delivery, hotel staff saw what appeared to be drugs on the counter in the hotel room. Staff reported their observations to Newport Police.
Officers responded and knocked on door of the hotel room. When the hotel guests opened the door, Officers observed a white powdery substance in the room in plain view.
The hotel guest, identified as Sandra Joncek Nelson, age 47 of Grants Pass, attempted to sweep the white substance onto the floor. Officers attempted to detain Joncek Nelson in handcuffs, who fought their efforts and resisted arrest. After a short struggle, she was taken into custody. Officers located two male subjects in the room, who were identified as Chad Flores, age 36 of Medford, and Benjamin Yuma, age 44 of Jacksonville. All three subjects were lodged at the Lincoln County Jail on the following charges:
Sandra Joncek Nelson: Unlawful Possession of Oxycodone; Frequenting a Place Where Controlled Substances are Used; Tampering with Evidence; and Resisting Arrest ($95,000 bail).
Benjamin Yuma: Unlawful Possession of Oxycodone; and Frequenting a Place Where Controlled Substances are Used ($65,000 bail).
Chad Flores: Frequenting a Place Where Controlled Substances are Used ($15,000 bail).
