Driver arrested for driving 105mph on US Highway 41 near Fort Branch.

Fort Branch, IN- On Sunday morning at approximately 08:10 AM, Deputy Garnett observed a vehicle traveling southbound on US Highway 41 at a very high rate of speed. Deputy Garnett activated his radar, clocking this vehicle, now identified as a 2008 Dodge Avenger (light grey), at 105mph in a 60mph zone, just north of County Road 550 S, near Toyota (TMMI). As Deputy Garnett turned around on this vehicle to initiate a traffic stop, he advised Trooper Matt Jacobs with the Indiana State Police of this vehicle and Trooper Jacobs advised that he was at US Highway 41 and State Road 168 and would observe for this vehicle. Moments later, Trooper Jacobs advised Deputy Garnett that he had clocked this vehicle at 100mph in a 50mph zone, just north of State Road 168 near Iroquois Drive in Fort Branch. Deputy Garnett and Trooper Jacobs initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and the driver stopped at Rose’s Tanning Salon, located at 207 N US Highway 41, Fort Branch IN. The driver now identified as Audrius D Smith of Clarksville, Tennessee, informed officers that he was trying to get back to Clarksville, TN for work at 11:00 AM and that he was running late with the different time zones. During the investigation, officers recovered a marijuana joint from Smith. Smith stated he last used marijuana yesterday and that he had gotten the joint from someone at a gas station in Vincennes, IN. Audrius Smith was transported to the Gibson County Jail and is being held on a $2400 cash bond, pending his preliminary court appearance.
