Vehicle collision investigation on Dairy Avenue

On Thursday, February 21, 2013 at approximately 11:47 p.m., Officers of the Newark Police Department responded to the 6900 Block of Dairy Avenue to investigate a vehicle collision that had just occurred.

Officers are currently in the process of exploring leads to determine the cause of the collision.

Further investigation revealed the collision was caused by the suspect, 39-year-old Estela Pinto (of Newark) after she saw her husband as a passenger in another woman’s vehicle. Estela believed her husband was cheating on her and subsequently chased the woman’s vehicle W/B on Dairy Ave. During this vehicle chase, Estela rammed the woman’s vehicle causing it to lose control and collide head on into a parked vehicle and a tree. The woman sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital via ambulance. Estela’s husband is not cooperating with investigating Officers.
Immediately after the collision, Estella fled the scene and was later located by the investigating Officers. She admitted to causing the collision after chasing the woman’s vehicle upon seeing her husband inside of it. She was subsequently arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence related crimes.
