HUNTERDON MEN SENTENCED FOR DISTRIBUTION OF BATH SALTS
Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony P. Kearns, III announced today that two individuals were recently sentenced in Hunterdon County Superior Court for their involvement in the distribution of MDMC (methylenedioxymethcathinone), commonly known as bath salts.
The guilty pleas and sentences were the result of a two week undercover investigation during the early part of 2012. The Hunterdon County Gangs, Guns, and Narcotics Task Force led the investigation into the distribution of MDMC which was being distributed throughout the county.
During the investigation, an undercover operative made several purchases from Ronald Thomas, 20, of Flemington. Detectives learned that Thomas was supplied the MDMC by Christopher Sterlacci, 26, of Three Bridges. The investigation also led to the arrest of a juvenile who was charged in Family Court as an accomplice in the distribution of MDMC. Detectives executed a search warrant and found more than one-half pound of MDMC, cash, and manufacturing paraphernalia, officials said.
According to Prosecutor Kearns, “The investigation revealed that the bath salts were possibly being be sold at Hunterdon Central Regional High School.”
Sterlacci and Thomas both entered guilty pleas to possession of MDMC with intent to distribute in the second degree. The Honorable Stephen B. Rubin, J.S.C. sentenced Mr. Sterlacci to four years in State Prison. Mr. Thomas received a five year prison sentence.
