Week of Monday, Feb. 18: Median work begins from Las Tunas Dr. to Callita St. Parking restrictions enforced along Rosemead Boulevard.
REPORTING PERIOD:
Week of Feb. 18, 2013
CONSTRUCTION AREA:
Rosemead Boulevard from Broadway to Callita Street (northern city limit).
CONSTRUCTION HOURS:
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. - 5:30 a.m.
Note that hours vary by area. Daytime work will primarily occur on Rosemead Boulevard between Las Tunas Drive and Callita Street; and nighttime work, between Broadway and Las Tunas Drive.
PLANNED ACTIVITIES:
Complete median reconstruction from Broadway to Las Tunas Drive. Begin Phase 2 median work from Las Tunas Drive to Callita Street. Activities include traffic restriping and concrete removal.
ANTICIPATED IMPACTS:
Daytime Work and Lane Closures: Median work from Las Tunas Drive to Callita Street will occur Monday-Friday, generally in the hours of 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Motorists traveling through the construction area can expect two open traffic lanes in each direction during the peak traffic hours of 7-9 a.m. and 4-7 p.m. One traffic lane will be open in the construction area during non-peak traffic hours, 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Night Work and Lane Closures: Median reconstruction from Broadway to Las Tunas Drive will occur Monday-Friday, 9 p.m.-5:30 a.m. During that time, one traffic lane will be open in each direction. Work must be performed at night to minimize disruption to area businesses.
No Parking: Effective Monday, Feb. 18, 8 a.m., until further notice, there will be no parking on Rosemead Boulevard from Las Tunas Drive to Callita Street. Outer lanes will instead be used as travel lanes to accommodate traffic flow. Those parking on the street and obstructing traffic may be ticketed and towed.
Residents directly affected by no street parking—especially in the evening—can receive free, temporary overnight parking permits for use on adjacent side streets. Address verification through a utility bill, and proof of vehicle registration at the verified address, will be required for permit issuance. Permits may be obtained during normal business hours at City Hall, 9701 Las Tunas Dr. For more information, call (626) 285-2171, ext. 2333.
Night Noise Impact: Residents living on the 5500-5700 blocks of Sultana Avenue may temporarily encounter evening and early morning construction noises resulting from median work. The City will monitor noise impacts and has placed a number of restrictions on the contractor to minimize any potential inconveniences.
Limited Access: The northbound left-turn lane onto the frontage road at Pentland Avenue is closed until further notice. Drivers may still access the frontage road by traveling southbound on Rosemead Boulevard; northbound travelers should consider alternate routes.
Detours: No formal detours are planned, but scheduled lane closures may result in some traffic congestion.
Enforcement: The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department is actively enforcing the construction area for speeding and unsafe driving. Per state law, fines for moving violations are doubled within construction zones.
When traveling through the construction area, drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are asked to be patient, proceed with caution, and obey flaggers and the law at all times.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
AM Radio Station: The City’s new radio station, AM 1690, is now live announcing weekly construction updates and traffic advisories in English, Mandarin Cantonese and Spanish. Roadside electronic message boards will notify motorists of new broadcasts, typically aired Fridays or Mondays.
Trash Pick-Up: Those who normally place garbage containers on the street for collection are instead asked to place them on the sidewalk or behind the curb. Regular trash pick-up will continue as scheduled during project construction.
