Press Release**Officer sustained minor injuries from motor vehicle accident**

Today at approximately 10:30am an East Brunswick Police Officer was involved in a motor vehicle accident while directing traffic on Route 18. Ptl. Jeffrey Dougherty was in a marked police car with his emergency lights on, in a road construction work zone, when his vehicle was struck from behind by a 1993 Volvo. The vehicle was driven by Louise Orlowski, 81 year old female from New Brunswick. Ptl. Dougherty was stationary in the vehicle when he was struck from behind.

Ptl. Dougherty sustained minor injuries and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for an evaluation.

Ms. Orlowski was issued motor vehicle summonses for careless driving, failure to maintain a lane and failure to obey directions during emergency conditions.
