SUSPICIOUS PERSON ALERT - FAKE UTILITY WORKER SOLANA BEACH

If you live in Solana Beach, please be aware that someone is posing as a worker of the Santa Fe Irrigation District to gain access to your home.

The incident was reported to the Sheriff's Department on January 29th.
A man knocked on the door of a senior's home and claimed to be from the Santa Fe Irrigation District and there is something in the house he needd to check on. The homeowner asked for an I.D., and the imposter said it was in his truck. After gaining entry, the fake employee walked throughout the home and left. Nothing was taken and no one was hurt.

The San Diego Sheriff's Department wants to remind the public that they can protect themselves by remembering the following tips:

* Do not open the door for someone you do not recognize. Use a peep-hole, side window, or locked security screen door.
* Request identification. City workers and utility personnel will always carry official identification.
* Check the vehicle to make sure it has an appropriate logo permanently displayed (the logo of the Santa Fe Irrigation District is displayed on this post).
* Ask for the name and phone number of the worker's supervisor.
* Trust your feelings; never let anyone into your home if you are uncomfortable.

When in doubt, call the Sheriff's Department at (858) 565-5200. You can also call Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
