Over the Martin Luther King Holiday weekend, the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station Explorers participated in the annual Chandler Tactical Competition in Chandler, Arizona. Sixty three explorer posts from across the United States, totaling approximately 900 explorers, participated. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department sent three Explorer posts representing, Crescenta Valley, Palmdale, and Lancaster Stations. The Crescenta Valley Explorers placed second in Hogan’s Alley, Robot Operations, third place in the Marijuana Field Raid, and fifth place in the Under Cover Operations. Palmdale Explorers took first place in the Tubular Assault.

Since its inception in 1969, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Law Enforcement Explorer Program has created new inroads of understanding between youth, law enforcement, and the community. Interested youth between the ages of 14-21 can contact their local Sheriff’s Station for more information on the Explorer Program.
