City Employee Arrested for Theft
On January 24, 2013 the City of Pleasanton Police Department concluded a two week criminal investigation with the arrest of city employee Ian Anderson, a Recreation Supervisor, for theft and unlawful computer access. An astute recreation department employee observed that Anderson had deviated from normal accounting procedures when enrolling his own children in a recreation program. The employee appropriately reported Anderson’s conduct to City Officials. The incident was immediately reported to the police department and a subsequent criminal investigation revealed that Anderson had unlawfully accessed a city computer database and misappropriated approximately three hundred dollars worth of services for his personal benefit.
The criminal investigation was submitted to the Alameda County District Attorney Office where a criminal complaint was sought against Mr. Anderson charging him with one count of 502(c)(1) PC (unlawful computer access, a felony) and one count of 504 PC (Embezzlement by public employee. Mr. Anderson surrendered to Pleasanton Police Detectives today at the Police Department. Anderson was booked at Santa Rita Jail.
