Press Release**Man arrested for knife, no threats made**
On Friday, January 11, 2013 at approximately 2:30pm, East Brunswick Police Units responded to the Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School, East Brunswick Campus on the report of an individual observed carrying a knife. Patrolman Kevin Bolch, who was working a security detail at the Vocational School, was alerted to a former student who had been observed carrying a knife in his pocket while visiting the school. The former student, James Prendergast 24 year old male from Dayton, NJ, had been observed putting a knife into his pocket after getting out of his car in the parking lot. Ptl. Bolch spoke to Prendergast and subsequently took him into custody after finding the knife in his pocket. Prendergast was charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and disorderly conduct. He was transported to East Brunswick Police Headquarters and was processed. After being processed he was transferred to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000.00 bail.
At no time did Prendergast threaten or attempt to use the knife. Prendergast did not exhibit the knife to anyone or remove it form his pocket. No additional weapons were found on Prendergast or in his vehicle.
