Community to Come Together Bring the Historic Hacienda Hotel Back to Life

New Port Richey, Florida — The City of New Port Richey has already begun making its new year’s resolutions for 2013, and up first is the restoration of its national treasure, the Hacienda Hotel. The City of New Port Richey is inviting the entire community to come together for a community-wide project to clean-up the Hacienda Hotel.

“2013 is a year of new opportunities, a fresh start, and a chance for our community to come together and celebrate the treasures in our city,” said Susan Dillinger, the City of New Port Richey’s Interim City Manager. “I can’t think of a better place to start than the Hacienda Hotel.”

Built in 1920, the Hacienda Hotel was originally known as a "Bit of Old Spain Amid the Palms", and was visited by some of the most famous living celebrities of the 1920s. Located at 5621 Main Street, the Hacienda was used as a hotel for many years before it became an assisted living facility. The Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) purchased the Hacienda Hotel in August 2004, and since 2006 the Hacienda has been vacant.

The Hacienda Hotel Community Clean-Up Day is Saturday, January 12th from 8:00am - 11:30am. Lunch will be provided to thank the community for their help in restoring this New Port Richey landmark to its original greatness. Volunteers are asked to sign-up by January 9th. Please email Marilyn Mercado at [email protected] or call at 727-853-1021. An email will be sent to all the volunteers with the pertinent information.

Dillinger added, “As a community, let’s roll-up our sleeves, come together, and work to restore the bright spots that make us proud to be part of New Port Richey.”
