WHERE: Northbound Highway 101 between Prado and Madonna
WHEN: 12/31/12 at approximately 0615 hours
VICTIM: San Luis Obispo Police Sergeant Jeff Booth
SUSPECT DRIVER: Unknown at this time
SUSPECT VEHICLE: White Chevrolet 70’s-80’s pick-up
On 12/31/12 at approximately 0615 hours Sgt. Jeff Booth was driving a marked police vehicle when he entered the northbound 101 Freeway at the Prado Road entrance. While traveling northbound on the freeway a vehicle traveling at an excessive speed ran into the back end of the police vehicle. The impact caused the police vehicle to loose traction and slide off the roadway into the center median of the freeway where it impacted with a guardrail.
Fortunately Sgt. Booth was wearing proper restraints and air bags within the vehicle deployed. Sgt. Booth sustained only minor injuries as a result of the collision.
The suspect vehicle, described as an older 70’s-80’s white Chevrolet pickup, fled the scene northbound on Freeway 101.
At this time the San Luis Obispo CHP is in charge of the investigation. Additional leads regarding the suspect vehicle and its driver are being developed. Citizens with information are encouraged to contact CHP Officer Gennuso at 593-3333.
