AVOID the 13 - Sonoma County DUI Task Force
Weekend Enforcement Update
24 DUI Offenders Arrested in Checkpoints, Saturation Patrols,
and Warrant Sweeps Friday Night
Sonoma County, CA – The AVOID the 13 Sonoma County DUI Task Force announced 24 DUI offenders were arrested county-wide Friday night, December 21, 2012 in checkpoints, saturation patrols and warrant sweeps targeting DUI offenders. Last night, Sonoma County Law Enforcement officers arrested 14 DUI drivers and 10 DUI warrant suspects who failed to show up in court, or failed to comply with the terms of their DUI probation.
Last night’s enforcement efforts brought the total number of DUI arrests to 58 since the start of the campaign on Friday December 14, 2012. The DUI drivers have been apprehended in checkpoints and DUI patrols throughout Sonoma County.
The one and only injury DUI collision was reported Friday night December 14th by the CHP Santa Rosa Area. There have been NO FATAL alcohol involved collisions during the campaign and the DUI Task Force hopes that does not change. Last year at this time there were 78 DUI arrests (down 25%) and 3 injury DUI collisions (down 66%).
There were three checkpoints planned last night in Sonoma County. Rohnert Park, Sebastopol, and Petaluma all planned to hold checkpoints but the inclement weather forced the last minute cancellation of the checkpoints in Sebastopol and Petaluma. In Rohnert Park, mother-nature cooperated and they managed to conduct the checkpoint for several hours before shutting down early due to rain. The results of the checkpoint in Rohnert Park can be found at the following link: http://rohnertpark-cotati.patch.com/articles/dui-checkpoint-nets-16-arrests
Petaluma PD and Sebastopol PD sent their officers out on DUI patrol last night. Sebastopol officers arrested one DUI driver and made another arrest for felony narcotics and weapons charges. In Petaluma, officers arrested four DUI drivers during roving DUI patrols despite periods of heavy rain.
Last night in Santa Rosa, a team of officers searched for DUI warrant offenders and arrest 10 people. Additional details were not available.
The AVOID the 13 Sonoma County DUI Task Force is currently conducting another county-wide warrant sweep tonight between 5pm and 10pm. From 10pm to 3am, the team of 17 officers and deputies will search for DUI drivers. Additional enforcement operations are planned between now and the end of the Winter Mobilization Period on January 2, 2013.
