(Edmond) December 20, 2012 the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) announced plans to have increased security at Deer Creek Public Schools. The school district is in the unincorporated areas of Oklahoma County and additional measures will be taken by the OCSO to make sure the schools have deputies patrolling them. “Today we see these innocent faces, we will use all of our resources to keep these faces innocent”, said Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel.

“The Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office has had a very strong relationship with the school district, and we look forward to enhancing security at our schools”, said Deer Creek administrator Lenis DeRieux. OCSO Patrol Division deputies will assist daily securing schools. The announcement was made at each Deer Creek elementary school with help from OCSO mascot Deputy Brisco. “We wanted to show the children that we are here as their friends, that we are here to help make them feel safe”, said Whetsel.

This is a permanent proactive solution for the OCSO and Deer Creek Public Schools. In addition to providing enhanced security the OCSO will also review district security measures and offer advice for improvements.
