DEVELOPING BLIZZARD TO BEGIN TONIGHT... .BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP FROM CENTRAL WISCONSIN INTO EASTERN IOWA TONIGHT INTO TOMORROW. HEAVY SNOWFALL WILL BEGIN THIS EVENING WITH WINDS STRENGTHENING TO 25 TO 40 MPH TOMORROW MORNING. THE HEAVIEST SNOW WILL FALL FROM CENTRAL WISCONSIN INTO EASTERN IOWA AND IS EXPECTED TO BE IN THE 10 TO 16 INCH RANGE BEFORE THE SNOW TAPERS OFF TOMORROW EVENING. DUE TO THE COMBINATION OF HEAVY SNOW AND STRONG WINDS...THE PREVIOUS WINTER STORM WARNING HAS BEEN UPGRADED TO A BLIZZARD WARNING. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS WILL LESSEN TO THE NORTHWEST...BUT CONDITIONS MAY BE JUST AS BAD WITH THE STRONG WINDS OCCURRING REGION WIDE. THEREFORE...WINTER STORM WARNINGS AND WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES HAVE BEEN ISSUED AS WELL. SNOW TOTALS FROM NORTH CENTRAL WISCONSIN THROUGH PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST MINNESOTA AND NORTHEAST IOWA WILL BE IN THE 5 TO 10 INCH RANGE. FROM NORTHWEST WISCONSIN INTO SOUTH CENTRAL MINNESOTA SNOW TOTALS WILL BE IN THE 2 TO 5 INCH RANGE. WHILE LESSER SNOW MAY FALL IN OLMSTED...DODGE AND MOWER COUNTIES IN MINNESOTA...THESE WIND PRONE AREAS MAY SEE SOME BRIEF WHITEOUT CONDITIONS AND THEREFORE HAVE BEEN PUT INTO THE WARNING AS WELL. WHITEOUT CONDITIONS WILL LEAD TO DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS REGION WIDE. SNOW PLOWS WILL LIKELY NOT BE ABLE TO KEEP UP WITH THE DRIFTING SNOW ON ROADWAYS...PARTICULARLY ON THURSDAY MORNING AND AFTERNOON AS THE WINDS PICK UP...LEADING TO ROAD CLOSURES. THIS MEANS THAT IF YOU ARE DRIVING AND GO INTO THE DITCH THAT FIRST RESPONDERS WILL LIKELY NOT BE ABLE TO GET TO YOU. THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LA CROSSE HAS ISSUED A BLIZZARD WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 6 PM CST THURSDAY. THE WINTER STORM WARNING HAS BEEN CANCELLED. * HEAVY SNOW WILL FALL TONIGHT INTO TOMORROW AFTERNOON. * 10 TO 16 INCHES OF SNOW IS EXPECTED TO FALL. * SUSTAINED WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 40 MPH WILL ACCOMPANY THE HEAVY SNOWFALL...PARTICULARLY TOMORROW MORNING AND AFTERNOON. BLIZZARD AND WHITEOUT CONDITIONS WILL OCCUR WITH VISIBILITY DROPPING BELOW A QUARTER OF A MILE. * SIGNIFICANT BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WILL CAUSE 2 TO 4 FOOT SNOW DRIFTS...ESPECIALLY ON RIDGE TOPS. * TRAVEL WILL BE DANGEROUS WITH MANY ROADS EXPECTED TO BE DRIFTED CLOSED...ESPECIALLY ON RIDGE TOPS. SCHOOL AND BUSINESS CLOSURES ARE ALSO ANTICIPATED. DO NOT TRAVEL UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.
