Compton Sheriff Deputies rescue boy from pack of dogs.
On November 18, 2012, Compton Sheriff Deputies were driving westbound Alondra Boulevard at Oleander Avenue, when they saw a pack of approximately six Pit Bull dogs huddled together in the street. As they neared the dogs, they saw a human arm coming out of the center of the huddle and heard cries for help. They saw it was a small child. The Deputies drove up to the dogs and sounded the air horn and siren to scare the dogs away. The tactic worked and the dogs ran east bound into an open gated around the 300 block of West Alondra Boulevard.
The deputies moved the traumatized boy out of the street and assessed his injuries. The deputies requested paramedics for the child via radio. Assisting arrived and secured the gate behind the dogs. The child suffered numerous bite wounds and lacerations to his arms and legs. The boy was transported via ambulance to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. The Deputies notified animal control, identified the owners, and remained until Animal Control arrived and took possession of the dogs.
The deputies are to be recognized for their keen observation skills and quick response. The young male victim was extremely distressed, and certainly would have suffered additional traumatic injuries or even death if the deputies had not observed the attack and took quick action.
