SUSPECT: Ryan Estrella 26 year old Benicia resident

On 12/10/2012 at approximately 12:28 a.m., Benicia Police Corporal Gregg Rouse located Ryan Estrella 26 yrs. (Benicia resident) walking around the parking lot of Solano Square near the Pizza Pirate (72 Solano Square). When Estrella returned to his 2000 Mitsubishi Gallant that was parked in the area of 90 Solano Square, he was contacted, but was unable to provide a valid reason for being in the area. All businesses are closed at this time. Benicia PD K-9 Officer Kirk Keffer responded and utilized his narcotic trained police service dog, K-9 Bak, for an exterior vehicle sniff. Bak is trained to alert to the presence of narcotics. K-9 Bak had a positive alert on the vehicle and it was then searched. Officers located a small amount of suspected methamphetamine in the passenger compartment of the vehicle. A concealed billy club was also found under the front seat of the vehicle. Officers located approximately 32.5 grams of marijuana and a digital scale in the trunk of the vehicle. Additionally, officers located two unloaded firearms (22 cal rifle and a small 22 cal handgun). Also found in the trunk was a small amount of gun powder, a suspected Molotov Cocktail, and an illegal martial arts “throwing star”. The Molotov Cocktail contained an unknown chemical. The firearms were collected for safekeeping and Estrella was arrested and found to possess a glass narcotic pipe. He was later booked into the Solano County Jail. Later in the afternoon hours of 12/10/2012, Benicia PD Detectives obtained a search warrant for Estrella’s residence. At approximately 1800 hours, members of the Benicia Police Department served the search warrant in the 500 block of Cooper Drive in Benicia looking for additional evidence regarding the Improvised Incendiary Device. No further devices were located at the residence. The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms took possession of the Improvised Incendiary Device and will be processing it to determine its contents. Further charges could be filed at a later date.
