Sheriff Whetsel statement updating reward information for the dog that was thrown off a bridge. #OCSO

The following is a statement from Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel regarding the animal cruelty investigation surrounding Rookie:

"Dogs are 'man’s best friend' and are dependent upon humans for food, shelter and care. In return they provide unquestioned companionship and love, for someone to throw Rookie off of a bridge is unconscionable and the sign of an inherently evil person. We are doing everything possible to find the person responsible so that person can answer in a court of law. The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible. Now Barry and Becky Switzer have added $1000 to that reward. Also Max Fairchild and the AutoMax Dealership are committing at least $1,500.00 to bring the reward total to at least $7,500.00. I would encourage anyone with any information on the person responsible to contact the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office at 869-2501."

The new caretaker of Rookie has created a Facebook fan page for him with updated information:
