The holiday season is always a special time of the year. It is also a time when busy people become careless and vulnerable to theft and other holiday crimes. Crooks love the holidays just as much as everyone else, mainly because it is the perfect time for crime.
We can never be too careful, too prepared or too aware. For this, The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Compton Station would like to take this time to provide you with some safety tips on how to be more careful, prepared and aware during the holiday season.
If you’re shopping:
•Shop during the daylight hours whenever possible. If you must shop at night, take a family member or friend.
•Avoid wearing expensive jewelry.
•Be aware of strangers approaching you for any reason. A Stay alert and be aware of what’s going on around you.
•Park in a well-lighted area and be sure, close all windows and hide shopping bags and gifts in the trunk or out of sight
•LOCK YOUR VEHICLE.
•Avoid carrying large amounts of cash; pay with a check or credit card whenever possible.
•For wallet users, keep your wallet in a safe and secure pocket, and constantly check it.
•For purse users, keep your purse strapped to your shoulder on your front or side.
•Never set your wallet/purse down or leave it unattended.
Remember to do your part to make the holidays a safe and happy time for everyone.
