Additional charges for driver involved Thanksgiving Day Accident


Police Officers with the Fayetteville Police Department have filed additional charges for the driver involved in the wreck at the intersection of Bragg Boulevard and Swain Street on November 22, 2012. Jeremy Banaka (23 years old) has been charged with Felony: Serious Injury by Motor Vehicle. This recent charge is in addition to the DWI he was charged with on November 22, 2012. Banaka was given a 5 thousand dollar unsecured bond for the recent felony charge.
Lavardis Whitman, who was struck by Banaka’s vehicle, is still in critical condition at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Traffic Fatality (11/22/2012)

On November 22, 2012 at 12:27 am Fayetteville Police responded to the area of Bragg Boulevard and Swain Street reference to a traffic collision. Preliminary investigation indicates that a 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier was disabled and being pushed from Swain Street onto Bragg Boulevard to get it out of the roadway by the driver, Lavardis Whitman (22 years of age), of the 5500 block of Jackson Street, Hope Mills, NC and the passenger, Terekus Rogers (30 years of age), of the 3500 block of Torbay Drive, Fayetteville, NC. As the Chevrolet Cavalier entered Bragg Boulevard Mr. Whitman and the Cavalier was struck by a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer driven by Jeremy Banaka (23 years old) of the 100 block of Waterway Drive, Spring Lake, NC. Mr. Whitman was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with life threatening injuries. Next of kin has been notified for Mr. Whitman. Mr. Rogers received non-life threatening injuries. Mr. Banaka was arrested and charged with DWI. The investigation is ongoing and more charges could follow.
