Sheriff urges safe travel this Thanksgiving week

Gallipolis:

In conjunction with the National Click it or Ticket Seatbelt Campaign, Gallia County Sheriff’s Deputies like many other law enforcement agencies in our area, said they will be out in extra force during the Thanksgiving Holiday period. They will be targeting motor vehicle laws including, drunk/drugged driving, aggressive driving and seatbelt violations to promote public safety.

According to AAA, approximately 42.2 million people will travel on our nations highways more than fifty miles to visit family and friends this coming week, with many driving during nighttime hours.

The Gallia County Sheriff’s Office will be able to pay for extra patrol units through a federal click it or tick it traffic safety grant. Gallia County Sheriff Joe Browning said Sheriffs Deputies will be scheduled for the townships experiencing crime related problems as well as grant specific traffic issues.

The Gallia County Sheriff’s Office encourages all motorists and passengers to buckle up before starting your journey. Do not drive while drowsy. Remember to take extra time for breaks during long trips and if necessary, share driving responsibilities. Because some Thanksgiving celebrations may include drinking alcohol. If you do drink, please use common sense by drinking responsibly and designating a sober driver in advance.

The Sheriff’s Office reminds drivers and passengers to be mindful of buckling up especially during the seatbelt Click It or Ticket Enforcement Campaign and to drive safely this Thanksgiving Holiday as they will be strictly enforcing all traffic and criminal violations. Citizens can report criminal and traffic issues by calling the GCSO at 446-1221.
