DETAILS:
On November 12, 2012, about 7:25 PM, a neighbor called the San Leandro Police Department to report a suspicious car in the area of Sayre Street and Argonne Street, which is located in the Washington Manor neighborhood. As uniform patrol officers arrived in the area, the suspicious car was found parked nearby at the intersection of Belding Street and Farnsworth Avenue. The seventeen year old male driver and a nineteen year old passenger were both located and detained near the car without incident. Officers checked several houses in the area and found a pair of latex gloves discarded in the driveway of a residence in the 1300 block of Breckenridge Avenue. Officers checked the residence and found evidence of an attempted residential burglary, which was confirmed by the resident. Additional evidence was also located on one of the suspects. Based on all the information and evidence obtained at the scene of the detention and at the residence, officers arrested both subjects for attempted residential burglary and drug related charges. The seventeen year old Hispanic male, an Oakland resident, was transported to juvenile hall. The nineteen year old Hispanic male, also an Oakland resident and identified as Victor Aguilar, was booked in to the San Leandro Jail.
Detective Sergeant Ted Henderson said, “This was another example of where a citizen called to report suspicious activity in a timely manner, which resulted in the arrest of two individuals who were committing crimes in our neighborhood.” Sgt. Henderson also said, “Residents are encouraged to call 9-1-1 to report suspicious behavior, and allow the police to investigate if that behavior is innocent or criminal. It is always better to call and let the police do their job, rather than rationalize suspicious behavior and not call.” Sgt. Henderson encouraged residents to always close and lock doors and windows whenever you are out, and to lock side yard gates.
