Drug take back box

Gallia County citizens will have a permanent way to drop off unwanted prescription medications.

The Gallia County Sheriff, Joe Browning, announced that GCSO will have a "Drug Take Back Box" from the Ohio Attorney General's Office. The Sheriff's Office hosts several drug take back events each year, but wanted a way the public could dispose of medications on a daily basis.

The box will be located in the lobby of the courthouse (near the security desk) in Gallipolis. Citizens just have to dispose of the medication in the secure box. All the medication will then be incinerated.

The hope is to deter prescription drug abuse in our community.

Sheriff Browning said needles or sharp objects should not be deposited, liquids should be tightly capped and put in a zip-lock bag and labels should be removed or names should be blacked out with a marker.
