PRESS RELEASE: Summary of MVPD SWAT narcotics search warrant & discovery of drug lab at 242/228 Bush St.

Based on an on-going narcotics investigation, the Mountain View Police Crime Suppression Unit and the Mountain View/Los Altos Police Department regional SWAT team, with assistance from the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, Santa Clara County Special Enforcement Team and California Department of Justice, served four related search warrants at adjoining apartments at 242 Bush St. and 228 Bush St., looking specifically for evidence of drug dealing and drug possession.

Ultimately, Officers located one DMT lab along with other narcotics including Methamphetamine and Heroin. Additionally, an assault rifle, shotguns and several other weapons were located inside of the targeted locations. Three suspects are currently in custody on a variety of drug and weapon charges and more arrests are expected in the near future. CA DOJ agents will be working through the evening to remove hazardous substances from the DMT lab.

Dimethyltryptamine or DMT is classified as a Schedule I substance by the federal government. DMT is a hallucinogen that naturally occurs in plants but can also be synthesized in a lab -- or in a makeshift lab, as the case may be. DMT is perhaps best known as part of a drink called Ayahuasca. Homebrew recipes include substances like lighter fluid, drain cleaner, and paint thinner to make it, and warnings abound not to touch this substance or inhale the fumes. DMT usually snorted, smoked, or injected, since taking it orally generally doesn’t have an effect unless taken with another substance that “inhibits its metabolism.”
