FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MAIN STREET BRIDGE BENCHES MURAL PROJECT
WHEN: NOVEMBER 10, 11, 2012 9AM-???

ARTISTS SET FOR MURAL BENCH PAITING
The artists are all set to paint their one of a kind murals on the benches over the Main Street Bridge THIS SATURDAY AND SUNDAY November 10th & 11th beginning at 9am on Saturday.

The City of New Port Richey public works department has been cleaning and prepping the bridges for the project over the past few weeks to prepare them for the painting. Murals will remain for one full year after the event.

It’s been 10 years since Greater New Port Richey Main Street, Inc. instituted its first “Main Street Bridge Benches Mural Project” . The project is simple—have local artists paint mini murals on 16 of the solid concrete benches on the Main Street Bridge, spanning the beautiful Cotee River in historic downtown New Port Richey.

The project is open to both students and adult artists. Submissions will highlight the nature coast (either flora or fauna) or a historic downtown theme. Students and artisits will be painting 16 of the 32 benches up on the bridge. Completed benches will be judged in 3 categories: Best Student, Best Adult and People’s Choice.

Lunch will be provided and basic supplies will be furnished, however artists are encouraged to bring their favorite brushes. Main Street is receiving generous donations of paint and supplies for the artists from Home Depot, Sherwin Williams, No Naked Walls, and some of the craft stores in the area.

Painting the benches and reviving the mural project should create interest for future efforts and entice people to get downtown and walk around—it will truly be a showcase of our local artists and their artwork.

The project is just one part of the many activities taking place throughout West Pasco County during Eco-Fest weekend - November 9, 10, 11, 2012 produced by Suncoast Arts League & Greater New Port Richey Main Street, Inc. Eco-Fest is a combined effort of many local non-profit organizations as well as community members with a concern and passion for Ecology, Conservation and Sustainability. Throughout the West Pasco parks, waterways, and various locations in historic downtown New Port Richey there will be eco tours, drum circle trainings, art shows, kayak runs, paddleboard demonstrations, and many other activities with an emphasis on utilizing our natural resources for food and fun.

The Harvest Fest in Sims Park is just one of the many events and activities going on in West Pasco this weekend. Harvest Fest will feature Bluegrass Music, BBQ, arts & crafts show, kids activities and many more. Visit the Pasco Ecofest website for more information on this and all the other activities going on this weekend. www.pascoecofest.com

The Main Street Bridge Benches Mural Project will perpetuate it’s work each year by painting the other 16 benches on the bridge.
