(Oklahoma City) November 4, 2012 the Central Oklahoma Metro Interdiction Team (COMIT) conducted a traffic stop that ended in with two arrests and nearly 500 pounds of marijuana confiscated. The traffic stop happened on S.W. 25th Street near S. May Avenue around 4pm when the driver of a Chevy pickup truck was seen driving at a high rate of speed.

“When approached, both the driver and the passenger produced fake Mexican driver licenses”, said Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel. Also in plain sight in the backseat and bed of the truck were several cardboard boxes wrapped in tape. “A K-9 was called to search the truck and the dog alerted his handler that there were drugs inside the vehicle. There were a total of 6 boxes containing 369 packages of marijuana that weighed a total of 492 pounds”, said Sheriff Whetsel. The street value of the marijuana is estimated to be worth nearly $750,000.00.

Two people were arrested, 20 year old Cruz Rodriguez (d.o.b. 05/03/1992), and 17 year old Jose Pena (d.o.b. 06/21/1995). Both were booked on a complaint of trafficking a controlled dangerous substance, and are being held on $25,000.00 bond. “This otherwise would have been just an everyday traffic stop for speeding, but Oklahoma City police officers and Oklahoma County Sheriff’s deputies are trained to look beyond the ticket, and in this case were able to ruin the day of two drug dealers.”
