On October 31, 2012 at approximately 7:20 P.M., Oakland Police Officers responded to “Marcus Cellular,” a business located at 9230 International Blvd., to investigate reports of gunfire and a non-responsive person down on the floor.
Responding officers located a male adult suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased by the emergency medical personnel who had responded to the scene.
The victim was identified as Mr. Wilbur Bartley, a 50-year-old Oakland resident and the owner of Marcus Cellular. Investigators and officers at the scene continue to encounter community members, neighbors, friends, and family members who recount that Mr. Bartley was a fixture in the neighborhood and widely known for his tireless community investment and mentorship.
The Oakland Police Department Major Crimes Section continues to investigate the circumstances of this crime. No arrests have been made and there is no known motive at this time.
We are hopeful that the amount of community outpouring and support in this instance will produce an equal amount of assistance in quickly identifying a suspect.
