Hurricane Sandy Alert!

Winds are expected to increase over the next several hours and intensify during the day on Monday. Residents should have all emergency plans finalized and be prepared to shelter in place or with family and friends for the duration of this extreme weather event.

Over the next 24 hours, heavy rainfall and high winds are expected to impact this area. There is considerable danger posed by flooding and downed power lines. As the storm progresses on Monday, residents are urged to engage in only necessary travel. Residents should curtail all non-essential travel by the afternoon hours.

Extreme caution should be used when travelling near flooded roadways and downed power lines. All downed power lines should be considered live and extremely dangerous. Do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways or move downed wires. Do not attempt to move trees and limbs that may be ensnared in any wires.

There is a possibility of wide-spread and prolonged power outages throughout the region. Power crews are on standby and will begin restoring power when it is safe to do so. Residents should have provisions and supplies to last for several days in the event they are without electricity for an extended period. Travel after the storm is likely to be difficult until roads are cleared.

Continue to monitor local news outlets for updates and advisories. Updates will be sent through Nixle periodically throughout the storm and the days following.
