New Animal Services provider for the City of Mountain View.

On Friday, November 2, 2012, the Silicon Valley Animal Control Authority will begin providing animal care and control services to the city of Mountain View.

The Silicon Valley Animal Control Authority (SVACA), a Joint Powers Authority that provides the cities of Campbell, Monte Sereno, Mountain View and Santa Clara with the care of injured, lost and abandoned companion animals, animal cruelty investigations, enforcement of animal laws, education and outreach programs, volunteer programs, and so much more. They place all of their healthy and treatable animals from our cageless Animal Care Center located in Santa Clara.

What does this mean?

• Mountain View residents will no longer call or go to the Palo Alto Animal Services Shelter to receive animal control and care services.

• SVACA will now respond to animal control calls in Mountain View, to include rescuing animals in distress to providing stray animals with emergency veterinary care, and provide animal shelter services, to include a spay and neuter clinic.

Where is SVACA?

• SVACA is located at 3370 Thomas Road, Santa Clara, off of Montague Expressway near US Highway 101 in Santa Clara.

How do I learn more about SVACA?

• Residents may visit the SVACA website at www.svaca.com.

• Residents can visit the Friends of SVACA website at www.friendsofsvaca.org.

• Residents can visit the shelter in Santa Clara.

• Residents can call SVACA at 408-764-0344 during normal business hours.

Why is the City changing animal control providers?

Mountain View had a contract with Palo Alto Animal Control Services. The new model is a partnership between several cities. SVACA is a reputable animal control agency that operates a state of the art facility and professional field and shelter services that is more cost effective and gives the City more control over those services than under the contract with the City of Palo Alto. In addition, SVACA will provide services that were previously handled by Police Officers.
