Hurricane Sandy Updates

Residents are urged to follow the progress of Hurricane Sandy. At this time, residents should be finalizing family emergency plans and preparing for the storm. Among the items that should be on hand are non-perishable food, water, batteries, flashlights, battery-operated radios and any other items needed for long periods without electricity.

Families with special needs should make plans for any medical necessity in the event of prolonged power outages. Anyone who depends on electricity for medical equipment should be planning alternate locations in the event they have no power. During the storm, emergency personnel may not be able to respond to assist.

In the event of widespread power outages, priorities will be established based on emergency needs as determined by the power companies. This means that certain areas may be without power for extended times. Power companies have reported that some outages could last as long as 10 days or more.

Monmouth County OEM is preparing shelter locations should the need arise. Due to the size of this event, emergency evacuation shelter space may be extremely limited. Residents should be prepared to shelter in place or with family or friends.

Further updates and advisories will be posted as they become available.
