The path of Hurricane Sandy has still not been determined, but we can expect substantial winds and rain by Sunday evening.  The Vineland Office of Emergency Management suggests the following preparation measures to be done prior to Sandy's arrival:

*Try to keep your yard free of debris.  Secure outdoor furniture, trash cans, toys and other items that can be propelled by strong winds.

* Fill your car's gas tank and park car in a safe area.

*Those with special needs should register by visiting registerready.nj.gov or by calling 2-1-1.  Notify the Vineland OEM if assistance is needed.

*Develop an emergency supply kit that includes a 3 day supply of non-perishable food and water, prescription medicines, first aid kits, battery operated radio, flashlights, extra batteries and a non-electric can opener.  Additional information can be found at ready.gov/hurricane.

* Charge cell phones and other rechargeable devices that can be helpful, in the event of a power outage.

*Make provisions for your pets.

* If you plan to use a generator, learn about safe usage.  Never plug into your home system.  Be sure that the generator is far enough away from your home to avoid having fumes and carbon monoxide from entering your home.

* Listen to area media for official information and instructions.  Official information is provided in your best interest and for your safety.  Releases are sent to area media and can also be heard on the city emergency radio 1630AM.
