County Fire Dept's planning TRAINING exercise at Rt 47/ Lucas Rd Woodstock on Sat. AM. Please give space to train
The McHenry County Sheriff's Office would like residents to know that there will be a large scale TRAINING EXERCISE taking place in the morning hours of Saturday, October 20, 2012 in the area of Rt. 47 and Lucas Road in Woodstock. If you observe responding emergency vehicles or experience traffic delays, it is because of the training exercise. It is important that emergency response agencies prepare for emergency situations through training. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. Here is more information regarding the training from the County Fire Departments:
The McHenry County Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Division 5, made up of the County’s Fire Departments, will test various phases of its disaster response plan on Saturday, October 20, 2012, beginning at 6am.
A simulated weather incident will have been reported to strike Woodstock (renamed Centerville for the event) causing damage and injury at the Creekside School, 3201 Hercules Rd., Woodstock. The initial response will come from the Fire North Quad (Spring Grove, Richmond, Wonder Lake and Hebron Fire Departments) as they have been charged with the responsibility of setting up the drill.
At first light, Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) will report additional damage at two other locations adjacent to the school. These areas were planned developments which are being demolished. The owner has offered Woodstock Fire use of the buildings for training before demolition. “This opportunity and location made for a perfect setup for this type of training, so we staged the disaster here”, said Spring Grove Chief Rich Tobiasz.
After mitigating the initial incident and after learning that there are other stricken areas, the incident commander will request additional units and manpower via the Division’s Outbound Task Force. Upon their arrival, Command will transfer control to the incoming Task Force who will then address issues at the other two sites. Patients from these areas will also be transported to the Centegra hospitals, thus testing their disaster response plan.
Other agencies and individuals involved include the County Board Chairman, McHenry County Sheriff's Office, Emergency Management Agency (EMA), Coroner, Search and Rescue Team, the Health Department’s Medical Reserve Corps, and Centegra’s EMS Department.
Upon completion, all firefighters and EMS personnel will be channeled through a REHAB unit, staffed by the Fire North REHAB Unit (Richmond CERT), MABAS 5 Rehab, EMA and the Medical Reserve Corps. REHAB is a means for fire departments to evaluate firefighters after strenuous and stressful events. Statistics show that more than 50% of the line of duty deaths in the fire service are caused by heart attacks, many suffered after firefighting. REHAB was instituted in McHenry County to help assure that the firefighters here do not become one of those statistics.
The drill is scheduled to end by 10:30am.
