Topsfield EEE/WNV update for 10/12/2012

Friday, October 12, 2:30 pm

-Good news.

-This week’s mosquito testing in Topsfield indicates no positive results for either EEE or WNV in mosquitoes trapped in any of the multiple locations throughout town.

-This week’s testing concludes the Department of Public Health weekly mosquito testing program for 2012.

-A Freeze Warning is predicted overnight from October 12 to October 13. However, mosquitoes survive if the temperature does not remain below 28’F for a minimum of two hours, which constitutes a “killing” frost.
-NOTE: The National Weather Service forecasts tonight’s temperatures to go no lower than 31’F.
For these reasons, residents should continue to be vigilant regarding protection from mosquitoes if the temperature is above 50’F.
