Reminder: Salon Meritage Candlelight Remembrance will be held tomorrow evening (7pm) at the Seal Beach Pier

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – SALON MERITAGE REMEMBRANCE
On October 12, 2011, Seal Beach was a victim to a senseless act of violence that took the lives of eight individuals and injured one other at the Salon Meritage. To acknowledge the resiliency and enduring spirit of the Seal Beach community the public is invited to attend a candlelight remembrance.
The remembrance will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at Eisenhower Parkon the north side of the pier. Candles will be provided and attendees are encouraged to wear white as a sign of peace.
Comments will be made by Mayor Michael Levitt, City Manager Jill Ingram, SBPD Interim PoliceChief Keith Kilmer, OCFA Battalion Chief Dan Hanson, CSP Victim Assistance Program Director Heather Williams, and SBPD Chaplain Don Shoemaker. Chaplain George Vogel will be offering a benediction during the ceremony.
As part of the remembrance, the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) Pipes and Drums, singer Dorothy Wineman, and members of the Los Alamitos High School Choir will be on hand to
provide musical accompaniment for the observance.
On October 11th, grief counselors, from the CSP Crisis Response Team, will be available to any community members seeking assistance at the nearby Mary Wilson Library (707 Electric
Avenue) from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Additionally, Grace Community Church (138 8th Street) will leave their doors open from 5p.m. to 9p.m. for prayer and reflection.
For those in attendance, free parking will be available at the Eighth and Tenth Street beach lots from 3p.m. to 11p.m.
Additionally, on October 12, 2012, St. Anne’s Catholic Church (340 10th Street) will perform a memorial mass at 9a.m. and ring their church bell nine times in remembrance of the victims.
The bells will ring at 1:12 p.m. St. Anne’s will remain open from 7a.m. to 6p.m. for reflection and prayer. Grief counselors will also be available on October 12th from 9p.m. to 4 p.m. at the
Marina Center at (151 Marina Drive).
