PRESS RELEASE OFFICER: Sergeant Doug Calcagno
TELEPHONE: (510) 577-3238
DATE / TIME OCCURRED: 10/09/11 – 0110 AM
LOCATION: San Leandro
INVESTIGATING DETECTIVE(S): Detective Jeff Walton
DETAILS:
In the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 9, 2012 a San Leandro police officer was patrolling his assigned area. He noticed a vehicle violation on a 1998 maroon Infinity and performed a traffic stop. During the traffic stop the driver of the Infinity was identified as Dante Neal, a 22 year old Oakland resident. The front seat passenger was identified as Brenda Williams, a 32 year old Oakland resident. During the traffic stop the officer was able to develop probable cause to search the vehicle.
During the search of the vehicle, the officer located 2 checkbooks inside the vehicle that had names on them other than the occupants of the vehicle. The officer conducted a preliminary investigation and discovered that the checkbooks were reported stolen during 2 separate San Leandro residential burglaries, which were reported in June and July of 2012. Based on the confirmation that the checkbooks were reported as stolen property from 2 separate burglaries, Williams and Neal were placed under arrest.
The case was presented to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office and both Williams and Neal were charged with 2 separate counts of possession of stolen property. The residential burglary investigations are ongoing to ascertain if Williams or Neal were involved in these, or other residential burglaries.
Media updates will be made as information becomes available.
