PRESS RELEASE
DATE / TIME OF RELEASE: 10-6-12, 6:15AM CRIME: Stolen Vehicle
RELEASE OFFICER: Lt. Jeff Tudor TELEPHONE: (510) 577-3211
DATE / TIME OCCURRED: 10-06-12, 1:33 PM
LOCATION: 1600 block of Hays Street, San Leandro, California
INVESTIGATING DETECTIVE: Det. Sgt. Calcagno
SUSPECT: Gabriel Solis, 26 years of age, San Leandro resident
DETAILS:
On 10-06-12 approximately 1:33 PM, a San Leandro Police officer observed Gabriel Solis driving a vehicle (white Toyota Tercel) in the area of Washington Ave near Parrott Street. The officer was aware that Solis had a NO BAIL warrant for his arrest for possession of a stolen vehicle. The officer initiated a traffic stop on Solis who accelerated and led the officer on a short pursuit (half of a block). Solis pulled into a parking lot at the corner of Washington Ave and Parrott Street and fled on foot from the vehicle. A perimeter was set up in the area and a search for Solis was conducted with a San Leandro Police K9. During a search of a residence in the 1600 block of Hays Street, the K9 alerted to an area near a backyard deck. Announcements were given by San Leandro Police for Solis to surrender at which time he crawled out from underneath the deck. Solis was taken into custody without incident.
It was determined that the vehicle Solis was driving was reported stolen out of Oakland. Solis was arrested for the outstanding warrant, possessing a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, evading a police officer and possession of burglary tools.
Lt. Tudor said “Knowledge of those who have outstanding warrants in our community is critical for us to intelligently deploy resources and keep all members of the San Leandro community safe.
The officer’s knowledge, available resources, and quality teamwork led to the arrest of Solis.”
