Anonymous Tips May Now be Sent to the Oakland Police Department Using #Nixle Tip Watch
The Oakland Police Department has launched the Nixle Text Watch system.
We and the team at Nixle.com understand the reluctances concerning the providing of information and tips to police, especially in cases regarding violent crime. Nixle Text Watch is an easy, secure and anonymous method of sharing information, and we hope that our community embraces its use.
When tips concerning crime that has occurred, or likely to occur, are not shared out of fear, criminals are allowed to reoffend and re-victimize when members in our community holds the power to stop them all along. Tip Watch removes the element of fear from the citizen's choice to report.
Anonymous tips may now be sent to the Oakland Police Department in four ways:
1) Text TIP OAKLANDPD to 888777 from your cell phones
2) Click on the “Tips button” now placed on our webpage; this will direct you to a tip submit form.
3) Call our Tip Watch hotline at 855-TIPS-247
4) After signing up for community messages and alerts at Nixle.com, each received message or alert comes with the recipient's ability to reply with a related tip.
Tipsters cannot be identified by either the Oakland Police Department or Nixle. All information regarding the tipster is encrypted and never available to any party when the message is sent.
More information regarding Nixle Tip Watch will be provided at a press conference today.
