DETAILS:

On 10-02-12, approximately 9:35 PM, several armed robberies were reported to the San Leandro Department. The suspects in these robberies were violent, using firearms during the commission of these crimes. The suspects targeted three separate victims in one neighborhood. These victims were randomly selected, all of whom were within a few blocks of each other. During the robberies, the suspects demanded money and other valuables. During one of the robberies, the suspects forced a female at gun point to exit her vehicle. The suspects got into her vehicle and fled. Luckily, none of the victims were hurt.

The Patrol Division documented all of the incidents and contacted the Criminal Investigations Division and advised them of the robbery spree.

Investigators made these cases a priority and immediately started following up leads which lead to 4 suspects being identified within 24 hours of the incidents. The stolen vehicle was recovered, intact, in Oakland.

Based on the totality of the circumstances and the violence associated with each case, San Leandro Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team conducted two operations which lead to the arrest of 4 suspects in Oakland.

Lt. Randall Brandt said, “This was a total team effort. Our citizens were good witnesses and they provided detailed information to our officers. The patrol officers investigating the incidents advised the Detectives of the situation. The Detectives developed leads which ultimately identified the suspects. Oakland Police Department also provided us with an armored rescue vehicle to assist with the SWAT operation and potential citizen rescue if needed.”

This is an ongoing investigation and witnesses to the incident should contact the San Leandro Police Department’s Investigations Division at (510) 577-3233. Information can also be texted anonymously to 847411.

MEDIA UPDATES WILL BE MADE AS INFORMATION BECOMES AVAILABLE.
